How to use
- 1
Drop an image on the Image → Base64 tab to get the string instantly.
- 2
Copy it as a Data URI, raw Base64, an <img> tag or CSS.
- 3
On the Base64 → Image tab, paste a string to preview it and save it as a file.
When to use Base64 images
Base64 turns a file into plain text, so you can embed images directly in HTML, CSS, JSON or email signatures.
- Good for — tiny icons, spinners, email signature logos, single-file HTML
- Avoid for — large photos: they grow about 33% and can't be cached separately.
FAQ
Data URI vs raw Base64?
A Data URI starts with data:image/png;base64, and works directly in HTML/CSS. Raw Base64 is just the string after it, handy for APIs.
Can I decode Base64 without the header?
Yes — we detect PNG, JPG, GIF, WEBP, SVG and more from the first bytes.
Is my image uploaded?
No, it's all done in your browser.
